Perched on an ancient incline, with unbeatable views over the inky blue waters of Stornoway (keep your eyes peeled for the seals bobbing amongst the gentle waves!), this inspiring, gothic-revival style castle hails from the mid-1800’s. Commissioned by Sir James Matheson, its historic walls have harboured nobility, WW2 hospital patients, college students and school children, but now, after a dedicated restoration, has opened its doors to visitors from across the globe to enjoy and explore through a range of self catering apartments.
As part of the grand revival, the upper floors of Lews Castle are now home to a warren of palatial self-catering apartments and contemporary suites, each unique in character and offering a luxurious stay amongst the turrets and towers. Offering sweeping views of Stornoway harbour, sumptuous décor, authentic island details (think Harris Tweed and Hebridean prints) and exceptional bathrooms, there is nowhere finer to rest your head during your escape to the Outer Hebrides.
On the ground floor, wander the star-lined corridors, delicately restored ballroom, peaceful family room and opulent whisky bar, before tucking into deliciously, handcrafted island dishes in our popular Storehouse Café. Opening times during the main season from April 1st are 10am till 4pm Monday to Sunday with reduced seasonal opening hours in the Winter -closed Monday to Wednesday, and open Thursday – Sunday 10am till 3pm.
